Aaron Harrell is the newest assistant principal on the main campus and is responsible for students with last names K through M. An A&M and UNT graduate, he formerly worked as a strategic design coach for the central zone of LISD.
“I worked with teachers and principals to work towards the district’s strategic design plan,” Harrell said. “I really enjoyed the freedom and flexibility it afforded but also [felt] a little disconnected from things going on at the campus level.”
It was this feeling of being that led Harrell to coming back to the high school setting.
“You’re able to make a more concrete impact if you see [students and teachers] on a day to day basis,” Harrell said.
Though the decision of becoming an assistant principal took some thought, Marcus was an easy choice for Harrel.
“From the beginning it just felt right,” Harrell said. “Marcus is a school that has a lot in common with the high school that I went to, and it feels second nature to be here.”
In addition, Harrell felt that he also belonged at Marcus due to his closely held beliefs in hard work and excellence.
“Our motto is pride and excellence,” Harrell said, “and my personal motto has been that excellence is not a goal, it is a way of life. Even philosophically I fit in here.”
