Principal Gary Shafferman was doused with three buckets of ice water yesterday as he accepted the ALS challenge in front of the school. He was nominated by three different campus groups. However, he said he did it for more than just the challenge.
“I wanted to tie it not only to ALS but also to community service,” Shafferman said.
PSAT Team, Spanish Honor Society and Swim Team each gave $100 for a chance to see Shafferman take his ice bath.
Over the summer, ALS ice bucket challenge videos flooded social media. Originally the challenge was created to bring awareness to ALS, or as it’s also known Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The challenge taker can choose to douse themselves with ice cold water or donate money.
“My main goal is to make kids understand that they need to help and serve others,” Shafferman said.
