Chantell Upshaw named as new principal of freshman center
Chantell Upshaw was named the principal for the new freshman center at last night’s district board meeting. A former assistant principal for the school, Upshaw has various administrative experience from positions she has held across the district.
Upshaw has been an administrator for the district for 14 years. She was one of the assistant principals for the school from 2000-2007. Following that, Upshaw was the principal at Arbor Creek Middle School from 2007-2010. For the past three years, she has been principal at the Lewisville Learning Center.
Principal Gary Shafferman planned for Upshaw to attend the faculty meeting this morning to be revealed to the staff, but due to a conflict, she was unable to attend. However, Shafferman expressed his excitement for her return to Marcus.
“She was a Marauder for seven years, so we think that is a great addition to us,” Shafferman said. “She’s coming back home.”
This morning’s faculty meeting was also supposed to include the unveiling of the new athletic director. However, the candidate the school had chosen made a last minute decision.
“He withdrew his name at about 2 o’clock yesterday,” Shafferman said.
While Shafferman articulated that he believed the unnamed candidate missed an opportunity, he wished him the best in his future endeavors.
Although the freshman center is scheduled to open in August, Upshaw will officially take on the principal position on March 17.
