Senioritis

“Those of you starting your senior year of high school, enjoy it. In a year, you’ll be saying bye to your best friends. Make your time count.”

This anonymous nugget of wisdom is so true and so compelling to those of us who are ending one chapter in our lives only to start a new one in a few months. I’ve been told senior year is supposed to be one of the best years of your life. This is true – it’s a year full of excitement and hope for the future, bittersweet goodbyes and the introduction of a whole new life.

But at the same time, apathy and lack of motivation seem to be at an all time high among our graduating class. This lethargy slowly creeps on us from behind and attacks, silently robbing us of our work ethic one day at a time. Symptoms of this terrible syndrome include:

·         wearing sweats, yoga pants and/or t-shirts every day

·         choosing not to finish class work for no apparent reason

·         phrases such as “I just want to be done” or “college is so much better than this”

·         sleeping in excess because it’s more desirable than actually being productive

We are all victims. Together we can get through this. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with this wretched condition referred to as…senioritis *gasps and screams*, there is help. You are not alone.

Although there is no cure, there is treatment. Medical professionals advise that patients surround themselves with daily doses of positivity, whether it be enjoying time with family and friends or looking forward to future endeavors.

There are different methods that are effective for every individual. Side effects of these methods include happiness, optimism and satisfaction.
