The school is currently undergoing two main construction projects that will continue into next year. The construction however has not come without its share of problems.
The construction of the freshman campus is the largest current project underway at the school. It has led to the loss of parking spots and has blocked the road from the stadium to the exit on Dixon. This project is set to be completed in June of 2014.
Over the summer, construction began on the new black box theatre located near the auditorium. The black box theatre includes a new shop for theatre tech and a multi purpose performance space.
“It gives us a new place to build off stage and also creates a new space for student groups to rehearse or perform.” said theatre tech teacher ,Heath Gammon. “We’re being told it will be completed in November…It’s going to be really nice.”
The orchestra and choir also gained five new practice rooms and one large ensemble room for practice purposes.
Assistant Principal Rusty Hamric said the construction is definitely be worth the hassle.
Other new projects include the new arena, which is set to be completed this coming March. After this round of construction, there are no more plans for future changes.
The parking lot has been more congested though because of the loss of parking spots.
“One car has already been hit,” sophomore Jordan Davenport said. “[Students] just need to pay attention more when they’re driving.”
Hamric advises students to be patient.
“The parking lot gets real congested, and we just try to stress to the kids to drive slow and be careful,” Hamric said.
Hamric advises students to give themselves enough time to compensate for the delay construction can cause in the mornings with the masses of students.
