Flower Mound will be receiving a makeover over the course of the next several months with the continuous building and construction of new shopping centers, restaurants and retail stores. There has been mixed emotion about all this progress and change.
“I don’t think we need more shops because that just means that girls will spend even more time shopping,” senior Jacob Atkinson said. “Plus we keep clearing trees and land for them and it’s hurting the environment. I just don’t think it’s necessary.”
On the other hand, several residents are looking forward to all the new developments.
“I think all the new places will benefit Flower Mound,” junior Aaron Bigbie said. “We are going to have a lot more options and places to go to so I’m excited.”
The usual cuisine selection is about to be notably expanded as new restaurants and fast food joints are placed throughout the town. The Burger King off Justin Road has been overthrown with the highly requested Dairy Queen rising in its place.
“I’ve been looking for a job for a while so I think having all these new places opening is going to help me out,” senior Joel Hunt said. “Plus Dairy Queen is pretty sweet so I’m pumped about that too.”
Also along Justin Road, the new Mexican restaurant, Fresco’s, has replaced the old Life’s a Beach location and plans to open early October. Further down the road, Raising Cane’s, opened Sept. 6.
“I’m honestly so pumped Cane’s opened because I’m addicted to their special sauce,” junior Nicole Ciolino said. “Just give me a shirt that says, ‘will twerk for Cane’s sauce.’”
Other new restaurants that have been scattered throughout the town include a Firehouse Subs, which opened Aug. 28 along Long Prairie Road and a Dunkin Donuts that will open in Founder’s Square later this year.
Market Street, considered to be a high end grocery store, has finalized plans for the construction of its new Flower Mound grocery store on the corner of FM 1171 and FM 2499, opening this October. The next month, a La Madeleine Country French Cafe will be opening right next door to Market Street. La Madeleine is already expected to be popular among residents, as it has consistently ranked as a top choice in the last three Flower Mound Restaurant and Retail surveys.
“I am really excited for the new La Madeleine to open up because I love their food,” senior Kristina Norvell said. “I have been waiting for one to open up closer around here.”
In the Shops at Highland Village a Whole Foods and Luke’s Locker will be coming soon. Right across the street from the shops, on the corner of FM 407 and Chinn Chapel Road, there will be another shopping center called the Highland Plaza. An Academy Sports and Outdoors has already been built in that area and will have its grand opening on Oct. 11. A Smashburger and Jersey Mikes will be joining Academy in the plaza with opening dates still to be determined.
