LISD has provided iPads for the AP World History classrooms in the entire district to use.
Students that have AP World History receive an iPad for the semester they are in the class. The World History textbook is downloaded onto it, and access to notes or software that pertains to learning world history is available.
“Yesterday, I started taking notes on it exclusively for AP World, and I think that’s definitely up to my productivity,” sophomore Tyler Stern said.
AP World History teacher, Danelda Crouse, said that she thinks the use of iPads is the district’s initial step to expand the use of technology, so they are testing the idea with the AP World History students.
Stern said that the Wi-Fi issues with the school make it harder to use his iPad for class. He said the iPad is not fast enough to be used in the classroom sometimes.
“I think it will be an excellent tool once we’ve developed the infrastructure to use it properly,” Stern said.
Crouse said it is too early to tell if this new use of technology is working, but it will probably be evaluated at the end of this semester.
“Students and teachers are pretty excited about it,” Crouse said.
