In the past, musicals contained one group: musical theater. This year however, is an exception South Pacific contained a diverse group of people, from theater, choir, and orchestra/band students to Marquettes and football players.
The play sets sail back in time to the 1940s during World War II, where there’s love, drama, action and of comedy. With all the commotion going on in the play, there’s something different going on behind the curtains, friendship.
Principle Gary Shafferman said he thought that it was time to have the whole school to come together in this musical.
“Mr. Shafferman thought we had enough talent here to pull our resources and to put on one all school musical,” Ms. Powers, one of the theater teachers, said.
Having Saturday night sold out, South Pacific got the whole school reeled in.
“This has actually been really nice. It has gotten the whole school to get involved,” Giovanni Kennedy said who played Luther Billis.
For the past two months, groups outside of theater got the chance to view a different aspect on what theater was really like.
“I just thought that would be a way for us to include as many people outside of theater as possible,” Mr. Shafferman said. “I just thought we were missing out sometimes on everybody.”
One step at a time is the goal to build a musical every year with the whole school involved was set to next year’s plans.
“So hopefully the musical the way we are doing it now will continue to be a huge tradition,” Mr. Shafferman said.
