The crowd stands up and parents and teenagers flood Old Nichols Street of Victorian London on the set of “The Little Lion Men” musical. The musical, written and directed by senior Kaytie Nielsen, was based off the music of Mumford & Sons, and was a financial success last Thursday, November 3, Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5. There was an encore performance Saturday, November 12.
“We all loved it so much that we wanted one more performance and we realized we could make a lot more money for charity,” senior Zachary Pletcher said. Pletcher plays main character Marcus Wickes.
English teacher Melissa McKnelly was given a special thanks in the musical’s program for inspiring a love of history.
“It was really really good, very well done,” McKnelly said. “I was just so impressed that it was all student- run.”
Senior Peyton Finley said he went because he had friends acting in the play, and said they did a good job at combining the music into one coherent play.
“I can’t believe Kaytie wrote on her own and made all the songs go together just to make it go together,” Finley said. “It was just fantastic and cool to see so many people from my school able to make something so creative like this.”
Pletcher estimated that so far they’ve raised about $3,000 for the New Horizons charity.
“It feels good knowing that students are supporting,” Pletcher said.
