“Senior Night” could not have been scripted any better for Marcus last Friday, November 1, against Little Elm. The Marauders improved to 3-3 in district play (6-3 overall) by trouncing the Lobos, 66-14, in the final career home game for senior players.
Sophomore quarterback, Colton Nussmeier, led Marcus offensively with precision passing and timely scrambles, finishing the game with 199 total yards and three touchdowns.
Senior running back, Mason Jones, rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on just six attempts.
The Marcus defense was dominant, allowing just 151 total yards and forcing four turnovers – one of which was a fumble returned for a touchdown by junior defensive back, Bradley Ume-Ezeoke, in the first quarter.
The scoring started early when Nussmier launched a 42-yard pass to senior receiver Cooper Campbell on the fifth play from scrimmage.
The following drive culminated when Jones punched in a one-yard touchdown run to put the Marauders up by 14.
After the Lobo’s next possession ended in disaster on Ume-Ezeoke’s fumble return, Little Elm finally responded after a botched Marcus onside kick was returned to the one yard line to set up an easy touchdown.
The second quarter was all Marcus. Nussmeier was responsible for two more touchdowns: a pass to senior receiver Charlie Burgeson, and a four-yard touchdown run. Junior receiver Peyton Belton also scored on a jet sweep.
