The tennis team’s fall season has had a winning streak. They have won 14 out of 17 games and are ranked at number 19 in Texas. The tennis team went against Flower Mound High School on Friday Oct. 19 for the opportunity to play for the district finals.
They won 10-5 against Flower Mound in the semi-finals. On Oct. 20, the tennis team went against Coppell for the district finals and lost 10-8.
“As one of our coaches said our team is one of the better teams that have been in his 11 or 12 years at Marcus,” senior David Lally said.
At the finals game, the boy’s tennis team chose teams for district doubles play. The teams were sophomore Sebastian Langdon and senior Ben Wegendt, senior Sam Karnes and sophomore Nic Van Den Handel and junior Tucker Barnes and junior Josh Peters. Barnes and Peters won, but the two other teams lost.
In district single plays, the boy’s tennis team chose Langdon, Wegendt, senior David Wittkower, Van den Handel, Karnes and Barnes to compete. Barnes and Karnes won.
“Overall for the matches, we worked really hard and did our best,” Wittkower said.
At the finals game in district double plays, the girls’ tennis team set up sophomore Preethi Kasilingam and senior Anna McMullen together. They lost, but the second team made up of sophomore Molly Fisher and senior Ludivine Varga won three sets. The third team was junior Vanessa Phan and junior Nicole Wilson. This team won all the sets.
In district single plays, the girl’s tennis team chose Kasilingam, Wilson, Fisher, Varga, Phan and sophomore Tanya Jacques. Kasilingam, Wilson and Fisher won.
“The Marcus tennis team has had an outstanding season thus far,” Langdon said.
