The long anticipated rivalry basketball game with Lewisville ended in a Marcus win with the final score of 41 to 35.
Before the game the varsity basketball boys walked from the huddle with their hands holding up a number one as they shot practice baskets for fun, making the crowd go wild by showing off their trick shots.
The first quarter began with senior AJ Luckey stealing the ball from Lewisville making the first basket giving Marcus a two point lead. As Lewisville fought for the ball, the schools went back and forth. The first quarter ended with a lead by Marcus 15 to 4. With a foul against Lewisville, Luckey stood with the ball in his hands. Taking a deep breath, he took the shot. Missing the first basket, the Lewisville crowd went wild, shouting “brick” and “miss”. Luckey focused in on his target and the ball landed in the second basket. Leading into the half Marcus was up 26 to 12 Lewisville.
Two minutes in and Lewisville made it to 16 points. Senior Phil Forte rushed for the pass and took control of the ball. Forte passed to senior John Malone who missed the basket. Four minutes and 49 seconds left Marcus had yet to score during the third quarter. Lewisville kept the ball near their end of the court, when senior Marcus Smart hit the ground. Knocked down while trying to block the ball, Smart’s tongue began to bleed and was out for a minute of the quarter. Lewisville has several unanswered points scored, and the quarter ended with Marcus with an eleven point lead, 30 to 19.
Lewisville had the ball to start the fourth quarter but lost it quickly. After a missed shot by senior Nick Banyard, Lewisville caught the rebound and scored a 3 pointer at their basket. With five minutes left in the game Forte had the ball but soon lost it to Lewisville, who scored once again. As the time ran out, Marcus ended with a six point lead.
