The 12th annual Battle of the Mound ended with a Marauder overtime victory. The overflowed stadium, holding close to 11,000 people, watched the close game with Marcus winning 38-37. Freshman Lizzie Cagle was one of the screaming fans in the sea of red Friday night.
“It was very suspenseful,” Cagle said. “I thought they were going to lose, but they pulled in out and won.”
After the game started, it looked like an easy win for Marcus. But after ending the first quarter with a 13-0 advantage, the Marauders lost their lead to the Jaguars. Flower Mound carried over a 31-20 lead into the fourth quarter.
With Flower Mound leading with a score of 31-28, and only 4 seconds remaining on the clock, senior kicker Drew Hamrick scored a field goal to tie the score at 31, leading to overtime. A 9-yard touchdown run by senior Jeff Smiley and following kick by Hamrick lead to a Marcus victory.
