Senior Raksha Jayakumar, editor-in-chief of our campus news-magazine, The Marquee, was recently accepted into Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Northwestern, located in Evanston, Illinois, just north of Chicago, is regarded as one of the elite journalism schools in the nation.
Raksha is a three-year newspaper staffer, an award-winning feature writing, a state finalist in UIL competition, and a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
“Raksha is a wonderful student and an excellent leader of her peers,” Marcus newspaper adviser, Philip Leone, said. “I think I can speak on behalf of (former adviser) Lajuana Hale when I say I’m thrilled for Raksha and her family. Getting into Northwestern is highly competitive, and Raksha has worked and prepared extremely hard to achieve this goal.”
Journalism student and Marcus Online Broadcasting executive producer, Rishi Hanumandlu, echoed that sentiment.
“Getting into Northwestern was her major goal,” Hanumandlu said. “All of us who work with Raksha are so happy that all of her hard work has paid off. We’re all proud of her.”
