The aroma of savory chicken, sweet potatoes and flavorful deserts enveloped the hall ways on February 10. The Taste of Soul occupied the cafeteria to help students experience a different culture and a variety of food. The cafeteria was filled with proud mothers and members serving their prepared dishes.
“This was my first year to experience the Taste of Soul,” Hayden Soika said. “I enjoyed the great hospitality and atmosphere. Also the food was fantastic, it is definitely a highlight of my junior year.”
The event is hosted by the black history club and in honor of black history month.
Senior Nicole Votolato who attended the event the year before decided to return. “The food was spot on and you could tell by the workers faces that they were enjoying serving us their delicious food,” she said.
The food served was mashed potatoes, cabbage, brisket, green beans, macaroni and cheese, chicken, sweet potatoes, and many desserts.
“Taste of Soul was fun to go to this year,” Emily English said. “I really enjoyed the food. My favorite was the mac and cheese and the dirt cake.” This annual event has been serving students for over a decade now and plans to be back again next February.
