Saturday Sept. 24th marked the date Triesch Memorial United Methodist Church’s annual fall craft fair. Vendors from all over the area line the walls and halls inside the vast building to display their crafts to flocks of Highland Village/ Flower Mound locals. With the addition of the church’s new building, more crafts were displayed and sold this year. Trinkets sold included knitted winter accessories, holiday yard art, baked goods, and jewelry.
A popular trend this year was magnetic bottle cap jewelry. One vendor Michelle Fisher is a local bottle cap artisan who has been crafting since 2009.
“When my daughter Marley went into sixth grade she was getting a locker for the first time, and wanted some cute magnets for the door,” Fisher said. “We had seen the bottle cap magnets before and had found some that were cute but she really wanted something to reflect her passion for theater. I had so much fun making them, that I thought I would try selling them at craft shows.”
Recently, Fisher began making flower headbands that have magnets so that flowers with a bottle cap center can be added to them. Most of the bottle caps are $6.00 and the majority of her other products are usually no more than that. Her most expensive items are earring which she just started making.
From September through December, she will be selling at thirteen different craft shows. She can also generally be seen selling at most productions at Studio B community theatre in Highland Village. She also does birthday parties. Fisher is working on a website depending on her products’ demands.
“When I started doing the craft shows I did not realize how fun it would be talking to everyone and explaining to them that the bottle caps are jewelry, not just a refrigerator magnet,” Fisher said. “I love it when someone finds a bottle cap that expresses who they are or what they love.”
