The first annual homecoming carnival was held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Math teacher Gina Karbs said the school replaced the traditional homecoming parade with a carnival this year in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the school.
Karbs said organizing the carnival was easier than organizing a parade. The parade required things from obtaining a permit from the city to renting port-a-potties. She said it was easier this year since the carnival is on school grounds.
“The feedback has been overwhelming and it seems like more people are supporting this idea over the parade,” Karbs said. “It seems like everyone’s really excited. I’m hoping to have a big turnout.”
There were 52 booths at the carnival ranging from a petting zoo, pie throwing and face painting and a decorate your own cookie or cupcake booth sponsored by Bake for Cancer Club. The booths lined the sidewalks in front of the school, and inflatables and a rock climbing wall were on the sides. All of the inflatables and many of the booths were free, depending on the club running the booth.
