Earth Club is a club dedicated to help Marcus recycle. “The goal is to help the environment and make Marcus more Earth conscious,” member Sarah Dixon said. The club visits each of the 150 rooms at Marcus and collects the paper in each recycling bin. After they collect the paper, members bring the paper down to the special recycling dumpster at the back of the school.
Getting students to recycle and only put paper, and clean plastic bottles in the bin has been a struggle Dixon said. Janitors have also been throwing away the recyclables with the regular trash. To help with this problem, the club has made signs in multiple languages that explain what the recycling bins are for. Their goal is to have one sign on each recycling bin by the end of the year.
Officially, the club meets every first and third Thursday of the month after school and the following Friday morning. Though, with a decrease of attendance from its members, Earth club now allows anyone to help out at their convenience before or after school. If students would like to help, they could visit Mrs. Crouse’s room before school, after school or even during senior in or out.
