The Marquee online decided to pick two random freshmen, interview them and keep up with their stories throughout the year.

Being a new fish in the large sea that is high school, is not always something that brings comfort to a person’s mind. Nicole Ciolino, a freshman, sits in English class watching Channel One. Ciolino tells her expectations on entering the high school world, “I thought I was going to get picked on by a lot of seniors, it didn’t happen though.” The stereotypical freshman first day is the beginning of your lunch money being stolen and getting your underwear pulled over your head. Lunch is an everyday course that everyone must take. Ciolino straightens her cardigan.
“I thought there was going to be people sitting on the floors and eating in the bathroom,” she said. She soon noticed that this was not true. After falling into the swing of things she found there was, “lots of room.” Ciolino said getting lost, was her biggest fear, but once she got the hang of everything it all seemed much easier.
Joe Felan, a freshman, tells his story of being a freshman at Marcus. Felan said he was ready for high school, that there was no way to really sum up how he felt. He explains he was not scared for the high school atmosphere, but he was scared of the unexpected, “Like in the movies the seniors would be mean.” Homework seems to be a disadvantage to the start of school, for Felan, “I was afraid there was going to be a lot,” but then said, “I have, like none.” Either nervous, scared senseless, or ambitious, everyone seems to find their place, even if they didn’t think they would ever get there.
The Marquee will follow these people throughout the year, and continue to tell you about their freshman journey.
